Dear Parent/Guardian:
We are sure you are aware of the reduction in funding for operating public schools in the State of Michigan. This mid-year reduction will be devastating for many schools. Indeed it is quite a blow for St. Johns Public Schools as well. For St. Johns, the reduction results in at least a $750,000 budget deficit for school year 2009-10. Our leadership team is doing as much as possible to keep the reductions away from the classrooms and extra-curricular activities. At this time, to help balance the budget, St. Johns Public Schools has reduced administrative personnel.
One of the reductions was to have a shared principalship between the middle and high schools. On Thursday, November 19, Mark Palmer began serving as principal of both the middle school and high school. There will be challenges; however, we are confident that the faculty and staff of both buildings will pull together to continue to serve all of our children well.
St. Johns Public Schools provides wonderful learning opportunities for our students. We are determined to keep these opportunities intact and look forward to the possibilities in the future. In these difficult economic times, we must all work together to provide a rich and rewarding educational experience for all of our children. Thank you for your support!
Yours in Education,
Ken Ladouceur PhD Mark Palmer
Superintendent High School Principal
Middle School Principal
